Malt Extract

Malt extract is a concentrated syrup or powder made from malted grains, usually barley. The germinated grain is gently dried and then ground. The resulting malt is then soaked in water so that the enzymes can convert the starch in the grain into sugar. This liquid is thickened into syrup or dried to produce a powder. Malt is an extremely versatile ingredient that is used in various industries, e.g. in the production of animal feed, in the baking industry and in breweries.

Dog and cat food

Malt extract is increasingly recognised for its numerous benefits in the production of pet food. It offers not only nutritional benefits, but also functional properties that can enhance the quality and appeal of pet food. Malt extract can be incorporated into a variety of pet food products, including dry food, wet food and treats. In cat food, malt extract is used to treat the hairball problem. In dog food, the natural sweetness of certain qualities is often used.

Brewing

Malt extract is used in brewing as a source of sugar for yeast fermentation and can be used either as a substitute for or in addition to whole grains. This simplifies the brewing process by skipping the mashing step, making it particularly attractive for those with limited equipment. An important ingredient in beer and other malt beverages, malt extract provides the fermentable sugars and characteristic flavour.

Baked goods production

Malt extract is used in a variety of baked goods, from artisan breads and rolls to biscuits, cakes and pastries. The versatility of this ingredient allows bakers to be creative and create unique products with improved flavour and nutritional profiles. It also helps baked goods retain their moisture, which in turn extends their shelf life and keeps them fresher for longer.
